Maintenance, Hosting & Support

Updates, backups, security, speed monitoring and small content changes. The first three months are free with a new site, then 50 to 100 KM per month. I also take over sites I didn't build.

In short: the first three months are free with every new site. After that, maintenance is optional — the site is yours and you can maintain it yourself, and I'll show you how. This is for people who don't want to think about whether the backup ran.

Why a website needs maintenance at all

A website isn't a painting hanging on a wall. Domains and certificates expire, hosting changes versions, forms stop sending email with no warning, and search engines change what they look for. Most of the breakage I fix didn't happen because someone broke something — it happened because nobody checked in for a year.

The security angle is more concrete than people expect. A neglected site usually doesn't get "hacked" because of who you are — it's because automated programs constantly scan the internet looking for outdated versions. Once they find one, they usually use it to send spam, and you only find out once your emails start landing in spam folders.

What the subscription covers

  • Updates — every component of the site is kept on current versions, with a check that nothing broke afterward.
  • Backups — regular copies stored separately from the site, and — more importantly — periodic checks that they can actually be restored.
  • Uptime monitoring — I get notified if the site goes down, usually before you notice.
  • Security — certificate, headers, monitoring for suspicious traffic, emergency patches.
  • Speed monitoring — measured monthly, because speed degrades gradually and imperceptibly.
  • Small content changes — changing text, prices, hours, adding photos. You send a message, it's done the same or next day.
  • Domain & hosting — I keep track of renewal deadlines so your site doesn't disappear over a missed email.

What's not included

New pages, redesigns, new functionality and bigger changes are quoted separately, with a fixed price before work starts. The line is simple: maintenance preserves what exists, anything that adds something new is a separate job. I won't charge you the subscription and then bill every single edit on top — but I also won't let a new section of the site sneak in disguised as a "small change".

Taking over a site I didn't build

I also take over sites I didn't build. Before the subscription starts, I do a review: what condition it's in, how neglected it is, whether there are accumulated problems that need fixing first. You get that assessment with no obligation — if it turns out a new site would actually serve you better than patching the old one, I'll tell you that directly.

If you currently have no idea what shape your site is in, start with a free analysis: send the link and within 48 hours you get findings on speed, mobile display, and what Google can't read.

Hosting

I can set up hosting in your name or take over your existing one. Sites I build are hosted on infrastructure with a global network and a free certificate, meaning fast loading even for visitors outside the region. You get the access — I never register hosting in a way that keeps it tied to me.

Questions

Frequently asked about maintenance

Is maintenance mandatory?
No. The first three months with a new site are free anyway, and after that it's your call. The site is yours, you get every access, and you can maintain it yourself or through someone else. Handover includes a short guide to what's where and what to watch out for.
How many changes per month are included in the price?
Small content changes aren't counted piece by piece, since that would just mean arguing over whether something is one edit or two. The line is scope: changing text, prices, photos and hours is included; a new page or new functionality is a separate job with its own quote.
What if the site goes down on a weekend?
Monitoring runs continuously and the alert arrives immediately. For serious issues — site down, forms broken, a security incident — I respond outside working hours too. Smaller things wait for the next business day.
Do you maintain sites you didn't build?
Yes. I first review the current state, then you get the assessment and a price. If the site is in bad shape, existing problems need fixing first as a one-time job — only then does a monthly subscription make sense.
